The Health Continuum implemented an Integrated Livelihood, Health and Nutrition Demonstration Project in Kusumpur Pahari, one of the largest slum settlements in South Delhi, aimed at addressing the interconnected challenges of poor health awareness, inadequate nutrition knowledge, and limited livelihood opportunities among young women and youth in underserved urban communities.
Through this initiative, we mobilised young women and adolescents from the community and conducted structured sessions on basic health and nutrition awareness, helping participants better understand preventive health practices and nutritional needs.
To strengthen access to healthcare services, we linked community members with the Charitable Dukh Nivaran Samiti health facility in Vasant Vihar, enabling them to seek free consultations and medical care.
In addition, we connected youth with the Vocational Training Centre at Dukh Nivaran Samiti, where they were oriented on career opportunities aligned with their educational qualifications, supported with job interview preparation, and provided guidance on employment pathways and placement opportunities.
The project demonstrated a community-based model integrating health awareness, nutrition education, and livelihood pathways, while also engaging with state government stakeholders to explore scaling the model as a potential programme for urban slums in Delhi.
